Have you actually ever attempted an introductory differential calculus class?

I was a middling to average math student in high school, but I managed to pull straight B's in university level calculus.
Actually, I have an industrial engineering degree and had to take all three semesters of calculus and differential equations. I also took several semesters of statistics and am quite good at regression analysis of data since industrial engineers do a lot of that in time-motion studies.

Both sides know our infrastructure is old and crumbling. The people want to fix things. But, the wealthy want that money and do not care about fixing it. So we watch it fall apart. and become obsolete. The rules are made by the top 1 percent. They never have enough money and power.

If you took university level calculus, then you should be aware that leaning it is not something which depends on genetics and only attainable for the top 20 percent elite.

You should be aware that anyone who passed high school algebra and is capable of learning a system of rules should be capable of learning the calculus.

"Calculus is one of the most powerful and astonishing tools ever invented, yet it is a skill that can be learned by anyone with an understanding of high school mathematics."

Thanks. I have grown a bit burned out on the tribalism and a high level of inanity of debate in recent times and have been catching up on my reading. I do have a post I will submit today I hope you find interesting.

Well you both did better than I did. I did ok in algebra, bombed in calculus, and did well in two semesters of statistics and a class in management science which was essentially a math class.

Fortunately calculus isn’t called upon too much in a life science track of study. However I was very much self limited by my lack of understanding in calculus when I was doing research at OSU in material science. Which was ok with me as I was doing research in that field to expand my base of knowledge as an environmental professional.

Kindergarten is where I learned how to write, memorize addresses and phone numbers, tie shoes, explore music and musical instruments, practice fine motor skills, socialize with peers, etc. If all you learned was "playtime", then you did not go to an accredited or even a public kindergarten.

People who work 50 hours out of the year are not showing up to work occasionally. Everyone deserves paid time off from work. Of course, it would be preferable if businesses made that decision without government intervention, but human nature is disinclined to doing the right things.

Tax cuts for corporations and wealthy people do not stimulate the economy. How many times do we have to go over this? Most corporations don't even deploy that money into capital placements and human development. They buy their own stock doing good for absolutely no one in the world except their own executives and shareholders.

And anyway, tax cuts won't pay for $1 trillion of roads and bridges.
you learned to WRITE in kindergarden?? wow. I was doing some letters recognition, but mostly colors and animlas and stuff.
I did learn to tie shoes yes, as to "music" some people came around with a guitar and played

Oh and I was exposed to chess - showed how the pieces moved, and tried to play.
    That was really important.
It became a life long love of chess tournaments -until i retired from competitive chess about 5 years ago

Tax cuts for corps also gave tax cuts for middle class by Trump.
The tax cuts actually brought in more revenue, and freed me to use the standard deduction

Part of it comes down to quality of teaching, but on the flipside anyone who was pulling C's and D's in high school algebra is going to struggle in university freshman calculus.

I took a prepatory pre-calculus class at university, which really prepped me for the calculus series. University pre-calculus is basically just advanced algebra.

Oddly enough, I did worse in introductory statistics than I did in calculus. But I attribute that to being in my last semester senior year, and by then I was on auto pilot.

I have spoken to numerous engineers who can’t believe I bombed calculus but received B’s in Stats. Most thought stats was harder.

We seemingly are still teaching mathematics like we were 100 years ago. Statistics and probability are off on a tangent from the traditional approach of algebra-then trigonometry-then calculus. Making the jump from that traditional approach to probability is a bit jarring, at least it was to me.

Probably what we need to do in core education is to incorporate probability and statistics right into the traditional math curriculum, rather than making it this subdiscipline you have to get shunted off to the side to learn.

You didn't learn how to write in kindergarten or anytime thereafter. Sorry, trailer trash, that your life never led anywhere.
