Well, wages at Lowe's an Home Depot vary by what you do. Pro sales people get paid more than cashiers. The various staff in different departments get paid more to have skills and knowledge of their area and have to take trade tests to prove it. People with skills, like butchers or specialty managers get paid more at grocery stores for their knowledge. It's only the unskilled, or low training requirement jobs that get stuck at or near minimum wage.

The median wage is a good indicator of what most wages are, and far better an indication than minimum wage is.

We tend to reference fast food workers when we think about minimum wage. Even though they earn more than minimum wage. A $2 beverage yields about $1.80 in profit, assuming the cup costs $.10. Raising the cost of a drink $.25 will more than cover the cost of labor. Even though $15/hour isn't a livable wage, it will push people over the threshold for public assistance. Most conservatives should be applauding that.
