Trump's Failed Coup Continues: CPAC Set to Be a Celebration of the Capitol Insurrection

The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) kicks off on Thursday, seven weeks and one day after Donald Trump sent a murderous mob to rampage through the Capitol in a final, violence-soaked bid to overturn the presidential election.

The annual confab — which has become the central event of the year for Republican politics — not only has no distance from the events of Jan. 6, it is basically shaping up to be a celebration of both the man and the movement that inspired a fascist insurrection.

It's not just that Trump is going to be the headline speaker on Sunday, allowing the same man whose mob tried to kill members of Congress and his own vice president to soak in conservative adulation. It's also that the speaker's list is heavily populated by other major right-wing figures — including Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas — who spent the past few months stoking the Big Lie that led to the insurrection.

Just as critically, the themes of the conference — that Joe Biden "stole" the election and that conservatives are somehow being "canceled" by shadowy liberal forces that secretly control everything — align with the same themes that drove the insurrection and Trump's defenses of his behavior.

All we can do right now is hope that enough Americans realize that the Republican Party has become a sewer intent on destroying our Republic.

The disgusting morons who form the core of that party are trash...and should be thrown out with the other garbage on trash pick-up day.

Trump, Jr. suggested the conference should be called TPAC.

The Trump family is actually telling the morons who support it that they are owned!

Agree, what is also interesting is which Republicans are Not attending the TPAC, Mitch, Romney, Pence, Haley, Paul, and Cheney, plus more. Thinking the GOP has a problem on their hands, the far right has promised to "primary" many of those mentioned, all based on the fact that they did not show enough Loyalty, not to the GOP but to Donald Trump.

Personally, I like the event in the sense that it highlights which "Republicans" have joined the the cult of trump, heck some of them are bragging about their part in attempting to overturn a legal US election.

Time for a GOP split, there is no way that the two factions can share the Party.

They are not even shy about their religious faith in trump, they even have their golden calf, or is that a pig, either way, they are more than willing to profess their faith in their cult leader.

I hope they run Jr. in 2024, the laughs would be priceless.
