Before you say it, the current Republicans are, indeed, worse.
LOL! Well, thanks for making my point for me.
And, of course, it all depends on who we're talking about, too, which is why each side thinks the other is the worst.
There are good people and bad people on both sides, so everybody can find examples of objectionable positions on the opposing side. The big pitfall is when people assume their examples typify the other side.
Naturally, there are no hard fast rules here, and it's always wide open to interpretation. Best to keep an open mind.
Stereotyping is black hole; out of which no objectionable thoughts may escape.
I am glad you're of a different view than mine. My User Title says "Diversity Makes Greatness." I believe that. I'm very glad we have opposing views from the left and the right. That means America gets as many perspectives as possible looking at every challenge. That has to be better than limiting everybody to one way of thinking. That's the big problem with the extremes on both sides. They simply refuse to even recognize the views of others. Their way is the only way for them and they don't even want to listen to anything else. Very closed-minded, and quite impossible to ever imagine a whole country taking up such views. It's like they envision and want things that are simply not possible for the whole country, but they think somehow it might happen, even though it certainly never will. No wonder they are so angry all the time. Must be very frustrating to be obsessed with wanting something which is simply not possible.
I support my own view by noting that I, (a Democrat,) have no desire to control your life nor tell you how many rifles you can own. I've heard that comment about 'wanting to control other people's lives' many times. It's bull. I support freedom; as much of it as can be allowed without impacting the lives of others. Or killing others. That is too much freedom. I think we would both agree that nobody should consider it part of their freedom to go bonkers and shoot other people.
It's not the guns that are the problem. It's what is being done with them. It's only understandable that people wish to reduce the carnage from American domestic terrorists. Logic works very simply for peaceful urban people who have no need for guns. They look at the situation and say if there were no guns we would not have mass shootings. Of course, that's overly simplistic; and we're never going to take away everybody's guns. There has to be a better solution somewhere between no guns at all and no gun restrictions at all.
What is needed is calm respectful rational conversation about what can be done to reduce mass shootings and still preserve as much gun freedom as possible.
