Correct. While slavery was one factor, there were several reasons.

Slaves are property...bought and paid for. The federal government wanted to seize the property of the slave owners and not compensate them for it. This violates the 4th amendment. It didn't matter that slavery itself is theft of wealth. The most abusive slave owners tended to be Democrats.

Slavery at the time was an accepted part of life. To judge it on today's values is a fallacy, known as a Presentism fallacy.

Other reasons were tariffs laid against southern States that the Northern State did not have to pay, simply because they were not as agrarian oriented as the South was. The South did not have the industrial goods like the North had. Dependence on slavery became their own undoing.

Slavery was already beginning to fade before the War broke out. Given time, it probably would have simply faded away on its own, at least in most cases.
Of course, now the Democrats want to make slaves of the American people.

No one says Congress imposed tariffs on itself.
    Explain that.

    Actually, it did...kinda.

The tariff was placed on British imports. 37% on some imported goods and 45% on imported raw materials. This led to Britain slapping a tariff on raw materials the South was exporting to Britain, placing the Southern States in a real financial bind. Cheap pitch and tar, sugar, and cotton was no longer viable to export to Britain. These were the southern industries at the time.

Either that or the South got a protected market.

It's probably geared more to getting Taiwan Semi-Conductor to locate a Plant here in the US. (But, you probably already know this)

    There is no chip shortage.

The US imports almost no chips from China. Most are made in Taiwan, Japan, and Mexico.

No doubt, slavery was a big part of the South's agriculture, which is why they opposed eliminating it. But slavery alone was not the sole reason the South wanted to leave the Union.
It was the sole argument of the CSA founding fathers. To contradict them in order to advance a false narrative is a lie.

Not really. They got started on these markets when under British rule.

Why would they want to locate to the US? There is no expertise here, and our eco laws are what drove our electronics industry offshore several decades ago.

There is no chip shortage. Intel fucked up. That's all. It's certainly not their first time, nor will it be the last.

'They' may not want to ... 'We' are the ones that will have to 'incentivize' them.
