Default Just looked this up; the PR referendum in Cincinnati failed by narrow margin

Proportional representation was almost re-implemented in one of America's largest cities, which would've made it the only city besides Cambridge in the US to use the system. What's notable about this referendum is that the other referendums to put it in place failed by much larger (like 70-30 margins) in the 90's. I think we may be seeing a resurgence in the fortunes of PR in this Pyrrhic victory for the majority-casts-the-minorities-vote crowd. Let's hope the next one succeeds, and then we can implement it for the state legislatures, and then the federal one.

Backers of Issue 8 Optimistic about Future Reform
Voters clearly want a change in Cincinnati City Council Elections

Cincinnati voters yesterday opposed Issue 8 and proportional representation by a margin of 53.5% to 46.5%. After winning among absentee voters by a margin of 52% to 48%, Issue 8 lost among Election Day voters influenced by a well-financed onslaught of negative attacks focusing almost exclusively on false claims about Issue 8 such as prospective costs for implementing proportional representation next year.
