Influenza vaccine effectiveness is usually about 50%. I do not know about you, but 50% does not seem like "rarely/never". Other vaccines are even less effective. 80% is considered very effective, but that still means 20% of people can get/pass it on... which is not "rarely/never".

Vaccines are best when used to treat a group, not an individual. 50% means that it becomes difficult to spread, and will finally die out, but only if every gets the vaccine and also reasonable other precautions are taken (quarantining, social distancing, masks, testing, etc.). There will still be transmission of the disease to even vaccinated individuals, but the bigger group will be protected.

to the bolded. spoken as an epidemiologist - yes. Those vaccinated/infected determine herd immunity
But if you still get the flu after vaccinations it's unusual -if not "rare".. They are not a silver bullet, but close

even before herd immunity, the reduced infection rate stop any pandemic

For some viruses, vaccines have proven to be close to a silver bullet, but for others, they have proven to be the only bullet. Viruses have been a tough nut to crack. Antivirals are just not very effective. Basically, other than vaccines, all we have is quarantines, and other several thousand year old technologies.

Almost all the ways to treat contagious viruses are basically trying to eliminate from the group, which means treating the whole group. It is not the rugged individualism that Republicans like to claim they support.

we missed the boat on hydroxychloroquine in combination with ZPAK and zinc
Front line docs had good results if given early -but our medical establishment never got that-
but instead published falsehoods and "studies" of those already hospitalized. Fauci very much included

Viruses are famous for confusing frontline doctors. The immune system can kick in and cure a patient. Without careful statistical analysis, this looks like a success for the drug.
