Viruses are famous for confusing frontline doctors. The immune system can kick in and cure a patient. Without careful statistical analysis, this looks like a success for the drug.

When studies say something either does not work, or barely works, anecdotal stories really do not carry much weight. This is especially true with viruses that are often suddenly cured for no outside reason, but are mistakenly given an outside reason.
