Given his overall performance for the day, either Garland is utterly incompetent or he's the most ill-prepared candidate for AG to sit in front of the confirmation committee in decades.

Garland answered almost everything I don't know... Here's a particularly egregious one:

Garland when asked if he would continue to criminally prosecute illegal border crossers answered "I really haven't thought about it."

WTF? Crossing the border illegally is a crime. That crime is in federal statutes. What's there to "think about" here? Is Garland retarded?

So, the OP's use of a cherry picked example is meaningless in the overall conduct of Garland in front of the committee. So far he's shown himself to be either totally incompetent, or the most disingenuous, ill-informed, and evasive person to ever seek to be AG.

At least Merrick Garland isn't on The Supreme Court!. Looks like he's a POS all the way around.

In Garland's case it's more like Those who can, do. Those who can't become government lawyers...

Garland is a highly respected lawyer. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...ys/4541464001/ He answered questions fully and honestly. I suppose rightys have no background in such things.

He isn't by me. His performance in front of that committee is what gives the 1% of competent lawyers a bad name.

That problem is yours. He was not considered for the Supremes because he is not a top-flight judge and lawyer, in spite of what rightys say. He was clear and open. He did not lie so it made Trump's uncomfortable. he knre what he could say to please everyone. The rightys wanted him to lie like Barr. Barr was a mess. Garland will have a big job cleaning it up.
