Default And The Award Goes To

Numerous movies and television shows glorified presidents. Abe Lincoln and FDR are portrayed as the second and third coming.

Woodrow Wilson was the worst president ever, yet he was nominated for an Academy Award.

    Let me explain.

From the time I was little kid during World War Two, I was interested in Hollywood propaganda although I did not know what propaganda was until many years later, and I certainly knew nothing about Communists or Communism. My awakening came years after Going My Way was released in 1944 which I probably saw when I was ten years old.

    NOTE:
Bing always makes me think of this song which was NOT nominated for an Academy Award

The Awards for 1944 were decided by a committee of five because WW II was in progress and the usual balloting process was too difficult to conduct with so many Academy members being overseas in the military and whatnot.

Another actor by the name of Alexander Knox (1907 - 1995) was also up for best actor for his portrayal of Woodrow Wilson in:

Parenthetically, here is a bit of trivia for interested readers. If you ever saw the 1979 British mini-series Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy you saw an elderly
    in the role of ‘Control’.

When the Committee gave the Award to Bing, the Left —— still a fringe group at the time —— went berserk. Hardcore Hollywood Communists still piss and moan about the 1944 Awards. The fact that Bing portrayed a Catholic priest only poured salt on the wound.

The Left claimed that Knox should have won because his acting was superior to Bing’s performance. Academy rules state that the acting award is supposed to be given for best acting —— not for entertainment value. The Left charged that Bing was given the Award by the Committee because his performance was the more entertaining one.

Bing Crosby’s Academy Award turned out to be a harbinger of where the Awards are at today.

Now that Socialists/Communists have been ruling Hollywood for decades they interpret the rules to suit themselves. (Nothing new with Democrats on that score.) Acting awards are now given based on subject matter which is why Hollywood Lefties wanted Knox to win in 1944 in the first place. The “acting” smokescreen was just that —— a smokescreen. After all, what is a little smoke when you are talking about Woodrow Wilson.

As the Hollywood studio system faded away, the Left’s influence over every aspect of movie-making grew in leaps and bounds with tax dollar funding.

After liberal philosophy came to dominate movie storylines it was inevitable that Socialist ideology also exploited television shows. The mainstream media is bad enough, but the entertainment side of TV does more damage than the news shows because millions more watch entertainment shows than watch the news.

Alexander Knox did not win the Academy Award for the movie Wilson, but propaganda marches on as Hollywood parasites prove with every release. Socialist/Communist propaganda in movies now share honors with entertainment shows on television, while movie propaganda remains an essential component in the media-education-entertainment complex

In case you are asking What prompted this thread? here is the answer:

Aside from an actress appearing as a first lady in a minor role about the president, big government ass-kissers never produced a full length feature about a first lady. That is about to change with Jill Biden:

Now, here we are barely one month into the 48 months of the 46th president and the new first lady. And already the fawning coverage is oozing out about Joe Biden’s wife, Jill.

In a weekend article The Hill already likened Mrs. Biden to a couple of legendary presidential wives, Eleanor Roosevelt and Grace Coolidge. Here are some excerpts that give a gauzy sense of what to expect in the media about Joe Biden’s 69-year-old second wife:

The basic test of freedom is perhaps less in what we are free to do than in what we are free not to do. It is the freedom to refrain, withdraw and abstain which makes a totalitarian regime impossible. Eric Hoffer

Okay, this is not Bing, but possibly his better half. He even takes a dig at him. :O
In reality, they drove each other to fame.
