Default Biden to G7 leaders: I believe in the global system

iden’s appearance, his debut before an international audience since becoming president, came as his administration seeks to maintain a tough stance on China while moving away from former President Donald Trump’s pugilistic relationship with Beijing.

The Trump administration sought to reshape the U.S.-China trade relationship, placing a key focus on boosting Beijing’s purchase of U.S. goods while addressing issues including intellectual property protections and forced technology transfers.

After striking the first “phase” of a deal, Trump in 2020 canceled an additional round of trade talks with China, on which he has placed full blame for the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Trump’s “America First” political ethos also alienated some European leaders who had long been allied with the United States. Biden has made clear he intends to warm relations with America’s international partners.

“I know the past few years have strained and tested our trans-Atlantic relationship. But the United States is determined to reengage with Europe,” Biden said at the start of his speech Friday.

Before delivering his remarks, Biden met with the leaders of the G7, the group of nations that includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the U.S., to discuss a global response to the Covid pandemic.

In a joint statement following that meeting, the G7 vowed to “work together and with others to make 2021 a turning point for multilateralism.”

The G7′s statement also announced that member nations would commit $7.5 billion in funding for COVAX, an international initiative that aims to increase access to Covid vaccines. The White House on Thursday said that the U.S. would pledge $4 billion through 2022 toward global vaccination efforts.

The G7 meeting touched on China as well, according to the statement. “With the aim of supporting a fair and mutually beneficial global economic system for all people, we will engage with others, especially G20 countries including large economies such as China,” it said.

Biden went further in his speech.

“U.S. and European companies are required to publicly disclose corporate governance structures ... and abide by rules to deter corruption and monopolistic practices. Chinese companies should be held to the same standard,” the president said.

“We must stand up for the democratic values that make it possible to accomplish any of this, pushing back against those who would monopolize and normalize repression,” Biden said.

The Chinese embassy in the U.S. did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment on Biden’s speech.

The president noted that “this is also how we’re going to be able to meet the threat from Russia,” which wants to “weaken the European project and our NATO alliance.”

“The challenges with Russia may be different than the ones with China, but they are just as real,” Biden said.

Munich Security Conference: Critics say Biden’s speech distances U.S. from ‘America First’ policies
    https://www.oann.com/biden-to-g7-lea...K_Jm7mcVtIrqZ0
iden spoke to G7 leaders at the virtual Munich Security Conference on Friday and outlined his foreign policy goals, which seemingly favored the globalist agenda.

Throughout his speech, Biden reinforced the alliance between the U.S. and Europe.
He said the United States will “work in lockstep with allies and partners.”

“The transatlantic alliance is back and we are not looking backward,” Biden said. “We are looking forward together. It comes down to this: The transatlantic alliance is a strong foundation, the strong foundation on which our collective security and our shared prosperity are built.”

While discussing China, Biden gave a mixed message by saying he welcomed the competition. He later added the U.S. and its allies must fight against China’s abuses within the global economic system. Biden stated:

“Competition with China is going to be stiff. That’s what I expect and that’s what I welcome because I believe in the global system. Europe and the United States, together with our allies in the Indo-Pacific, worked so hard to build over the last 70 years. We have to push back against the Chinese government’s economic abuses and coercion that undercut the foundations of the international economic system.”

He also claimed the U.S. and its European allies must come together to protect the”free exchange of ideas in open democratic societies.”

Richard Grenell, a former intelligence official under the Trump administration, took to Twitter to comment on Biden’s speech. He claimed “Biden’s America will not be first.”
The Trump administration was known for prioritizing the U.S., which often involved ending partnerships the administration considered harmful to the nation.

I welcome because I believe in the global system.
    what "global system"?
Trade isn't security agreements. Nations prsue their own best interests,
or get in monstrosities like the TTP

Biden is jawboning without purpose. Europe isn't going to act in concert with the USA on trade with China.
The best outcome is reforming the "GLOBAL SYSTEM" = the WTO
and that truly IS a HOPELESS ENDEAVOR.. we win grievances but they are unenforced

Biden is hyping a fantasy trade alliance with Europe/"indo" asia

Trump wanted to leave the world for China to market. I cannot think of a better way to make them the powerful nation on the planet. Every damn corporation sells across the globe. What Trump said was so different than what he did. He has businesses all over the globe and has his crap made in China and 3rd world countries. He as big a globalist as you can get. Yet he sold rightys that he has America first in his alleged mind. They actually fell for it. It is amazing.

ROFL..the existing structure is the WTO. it's powerless to stop China IP theft, R&D disclosure to Chinese Joint Ventures. and China closes its markets by tariffs or directing their State Owned Enterprises (SOE) to operate as a quasi-monopoly.
    ~~

Trump threw all that out ,
in favor of a NEW BILATERAL AGREEMENT with China that superceded all this rotten globalist crap

But he only got thru phases 1.
US Trade rep Lighthizer had agreed on Phase 2 metrics, but the Chinese virus blew all that up,
and followed by Biden's "global structure" junk noise

You do know that trump is a globalist since he has business around the world, including China and he does banking there. The way you guys talk it is as if trump was somehow making China do something he wanted and that was never the case, heck even the tariffs were paid for by the customers, Us.

Biden to G7 leaders: I believe in the global system
The global system is now being remade by China to further the glory of the Empire, is now under the control of China, who hates us and is going to insist that we are made the primeir shit hole country of the Empire as payment for our many sins, as an example to everyone else of the proper cost of the entire elite class failing in their duties.
I choose my own words like the Americans of olden times........before this dystopia arrived.

The IP thing is a joke. Our corporations moved manufacturing lock, stock and intellectual property for cheap unprotected labor and no environmental regulations. This is our capitalists looking for fast profits. They have no interest in American survival. China made rules that when American businesses went there, they had to take Chinese engineers and business people inside. We trained them to not need us and to replace us. We spent a century developing manufacturing systems which we gave them. That is the Chinese miracle.
