The field has been defined by the Engineers Council for Professional Development, in the United States, as the creative application of “scientific principles to design or develop structures, machines, apparatus, or manufacturing processes, or works utilizing them singly or in combination; or to construct or operate the same with full cognizance of their design; or to forecast their behaviour under specific operating conditions; all as respects an intended function, economics of operation and safety to life and property.”

Any other caveats and qualifications to add?

It does not happen, and if you were actually a professional engineer you would know that

These two caveats are all that is needed:
Just the corrupt or lazy ones.

You and I both know you are not a professional engineer, because as a practical and professional matter, engineers do not call themselves "scientists".

If you actually worked as a professional engineer you would know that.

Most likely, you are simply lying about youself.

    "Engineering Is Not Science"

--- Boston University College of Engineering---

Engineers are not a sub-category of scientists.

So often the two terms are used interchangeably, but they are separate, albeit related, disciplines.

Scientists explore the natural world and show us how and why it is as it is. Discovery is the essence of science. Engineers innovate solutions to real-world challenges in society.

Micawber and Jerome are lawyers offering exactly the same evidence as you do.

Thumbs down I'm back in the sweatshop.

You're going to be on calls with him. He's a high pressure boiler guy.
There's gas in the Econoline and all tools and parts are in there.

They lay the people off for 3 months during the winter. It's cheaper for him to change the pipes.
It's a fraction of the cost to change the frozen cracked pipes. Than to heat an empty wearhouse.

A little knowledge can be dangerous.
