Trump tried the coup AFTER the election, so no, the accountability wasn't the election result.

The accountability will be trump never holding office again, and Trump going to jail and white supremacist groups being deemed terrorist groups and hunted accordingly.

Which part do you disagree with? Do you think there is any chance for conviction? If so, that is overly optimistic. Some of the JPP liberals said the first trial had a chance of convicting.

A Modest Proposal For Separating Blue States From Red

    Dear Red-State Trump Voter,
Let’s face it, guys: We’re done.

It is a tragedy that so much of the work that so many men and women toiled at for so long to make this a better country, and a better world, has been thrown away, leaving us all in such needless peril.

This is why our separation in all but name is necessary.

I care about the truth. Watching the videos from the trial today disgusted me. Trump inspired fascists.

I don't think that we'll have to worry about him ever holding office again, but a conviction would seal that.
Agreed, but there's no chance of a 2/3 Senate vote.

All the convictions and punishment of previous politicians did not seem to send a message to the current crew. The law is not usually a deterrent because they don't think they will be caught. Those who obey the law is not because they are afraid of punishment but because they think it is morally wrong.

But the coup failed so his defeat was the punishment. Trump is not likely to seek office again (although his lawyer says he is the mayor of Mar-a-Lago). Trump is very unlikely to go to jail and only those white supremacist groups with a record of illegal acts can be deemed terrorist. There is nothing illegal about being a white supremacist by itself.

It was a waste of time only if the sole purpose was to convict. Seventeen Republican Senators wouldn’t do that even if Trump ordered the insurrection in writing. But it was important that the case be made to the country, and it was made exceptionally well.
