Trump was reckless and irresponsible, and put our republic at risk. What's happening now is all about accountability. Don't give us the "he's out of office - what good will this do?" nonsense, or "this will just further divide the country!" Trump did what he did. We shouldn't sweep it under a rug.

And can you imagine any other trial where half of the jury says ahead of time that they already know what verdict they plan to render, without even seeing the evidence presented? Or where they doodle while the prosecution is making its case?
Nobody expects trump to be punished for this. What these proceedings do, is cement trump's legacy for the history books. His brand is in the toilet, and he's got a long legal road ahead of him in the coming years.

I think he'll end up in the loony bin.

Trump will have his tiny hands fill with NY law cases. He has to somehow get lawyers who will work for free. Trump will be very busy.

Agreed. Too old, too crazy, poor health.

Not a lawyer, but there's a lot to be said about setting precedent. The documentation in the US Senate can be played in the trial (or plea dea) for every criminal who attacked the Capitol or participated in it's support.

It's illegal to support a terrorist organization. Everyone who sent money to any terrorist front to attack the Capitol, #StoptheSteal, etc and had reasonable knowledge of the plan can be prosecuted as a terrorist. No different than sending money to ISIS or the IRA.

True. We need former Trumfucks who are now watching better news to know what they were a part of.

We won by 8 million. By the time of midterms it will be 18 millions.

Agreed with all except "cement" if that means "end". This isn't over yet.

Not a lawyer but from what I saw today there was a lot of premeditation to Trump's rallies including the foreknowledge of violence. That's a lot of fucking lawsuits. Trump might die from a thousand cuts.

Just as some consider the death penalty to be some sort of deterrent, a conviction here is necessary to send a message to future trumps. It would also serve to punish him monetarily. He'd lose a number of post presidential perks, not the least of which being a $1 million/year travel stipend.

I don't think that we'll have to worry about him ever holding office again, but a conviction would seal that.

This impeachment is a sham except as an exercise in shoving poop in the puppy's nose and writing history.
Don't shit in the people's house. Bad doggy. They are that dumb. Not so cute, but just as fucking dumb.

Multiple intel. agencies are investigating this fully. It would be nice to have some info re. sitting politicians before the Senate trial is over.

Sooo, after 5-10 years you can claim victory!

I'd be happy to see everyone pay for their crimes one way or another.

There were quite a few moving parts...many of them sitting in the Senate and refusing to pay attention when House managers speak. By 'cement', I mean set in stone the facts about this heinous administration.

If you're saying that there is much more to come in the civilian courts, I agree. But there are no surprises. We've known about his crimes for years, but he had Barr running interference.

Now there is solid groundwork for some very serious crimes. Not just for Trump, but for all in the Trump administration who had a part.

The John Deans better start moving fast before all the best plea deals are taken.

This next year is going to be fascinating for sure.

No doubt justice will be done. Most of those caught so far are the stupid ones. It's those in the shadows and up the chain which will be the most entertaining over the next year.
