Not when Democrats have won over the past few decades. Greatest prosperity ever under Clinton. Obama brought us back from a devastating crash.
Those consequences have been pretty awesome. It's usually only when we put a Republican in charge that things fall apart. But Dems always seem to fix it.
same old shit from the GOP
they whine "where's the unity, Joe?" while trashing him and his entire administration
oh I don't know, tough one
Clinton benefited from the earliest days of the tech boom—and, he was an actual centrist Democrat. Good luck finding one of those these days.
And I reject the premise that Obama brought us [creeping] back from a ‘republican’ disaster. The crash was a bipartisan effort.

Both takes are partisan. Clinton will always be remembered as one of our best economic Presidents, and no one really sees the Bush crash as some sort of "bipartisan" thing. The President is the steward of the economy.
And history is pretty clear: Republican Presidents usually leave office w/ the economy on a downswing or even crash, and Democrat Presidents fix it.
And it's interesting that you call Clinton "centrist." He was - but so is Biden. And just like Biden, everyone on the right portrayed Clinton as a "radical socialist" when he was elected, and for most of his time in office.
Democrats will screw it up because they always do lol. Actually, neither party is good at holding the WH and both bodies. But this crop of democrats is already out over their skis. They’re too cocky and for some reason they have it in their heads that they have a mandate.
I wouldn’t be surprised if 2022 is a bloodbath.

What do you mean "because they always do?" I just explained this, but I'll try again: history says the opposite.
Clinton inherited a recession from his Republican predecessor, and we had arguably America's greatest economic prosperity under his admin.
Obama inherited a massive crash - an economy spiraling out of control. And he instigated one of our longest recoveries.
Now, we have a Democrat President taking over from - surprise, surprise - yet another economic crash that happened under a Republican.
History says that Democrats fix things. The idea that they always "screw things up" just isn't reality.
Again - the President is the steward of the economy. I'm sure when you talk about the economy of the Carter years, you don't take a comprehensive look at "all the factors."
Cheney said early on in Bush's admin that deficit spending didn't matter. And that's consistent w/ what we've seen from the right: debt & deficits are the #1 focus, until they're actually in power. Then, they spend like crazy and ignore economic warnings.
And that's what Bush did. He knew about the housing bubble. He was given opportunities to show leadership. And just like other Republicans - he failed.
It was the Bush crash. And the bottom line is that he left office with a massive economic downturn to hand off to his successor.
