In 2020, trump got 47% of the vote. Lets say he gets half that, and the Republican nominee get the other half, that is 23.5% each. Against Biden getting 51+%, and Biden gets a second term.
You may point out that the popular vote is not important. If you divide trump's numbers in half, then compare them to Biden's numbers, you have trump and the Republican nominee getting 19 Electors(Wyoming, West Virginia, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and one Elector from Nebraska), and Biden getting 519 Electors. Biden would sale to one of the greatest victories in American history.
The only way trump could win a three way race is if he is the Republican nominee, and the Democrats were divided.

The candidates are not picked by the general voters, they are picked by the primary voters. trump does well with the Republican primary voters. If he wants the Republican nomination, he has it.
