Because the expected crowds would have been embarrassingly small, like most of Creepy's campaign stops.
Ad hom, because you can't dispute the theory. This gives it more credence.

It was double pronged, actually.
One was to keep the media from doing embarrassing crowd comparisons; the other, was to ‘show’ just how dangerous Trump supporters are. Load up DC with an absurd amount of troops that the armies many medium sized countries would hesitate challenge. When the Trump ‘insurrectionists’ inevitably fall to appear, use their absence as evidence of just how threatening they were and how effective the military presence was in stopping them.
It’s ‘winning’ progressive style. Problems is the winning is always an illusion.
Coup has started. First of many steps. Impeachment will follow ultimately~WB attorney Mark Zaid, January 2017

Guess you guys didn't see the streets nationally when Biden was declared the winner back in November?
So, no - the crowd comparisons would not have been "embarrassing." It would have been packed.

Judge Juan M. Merchan wrote that Trump “appears to take the position that his situation and this case are unique and that the pre-trial publicity will never subside. However, this view does not align with reality.”
