The 2nd Amendment is not the issue. Congress and state governments have the power to pass laws regulating almost anything proposed by the gun control crowd except banning weapons. It is a political choice and most Americans do not want additional regulations (at least the political active ones). None of those laws would prevent militias.

I bet many of those 57% live in states that already have stricter laws. Those 57% need to lobby their state and federal legislators to pass the restrictions they desire. The 2nd Amendment is not is what is stopping them. Those that strongly oppose such laws are much more vocal and active on that issue than those who favor them.
