Default The Capitol siege recalls past acts of Christian nationalist violence

As scholars of religion Andrew Whitehead and Samuel L. Perry argue in their book “Taking Back America for God,” Christian nationalism is predominant in Trump support.

Perry and Whitehead describe the movement as “as ethnic and political as it is religious,” noting that it takes in assumptions of white supremacy.

Christian nationalist violence has been a presence during the Trump administration. More broadly it has been on the rise over the past few decades.

Christian imagery loomed large on Jan. 6 as the “Stop the Steal” rally morphed into a mob siege. A group of Trump supporters prayed around a large wooden cross, and others carried “Jesus saves” signs and yelled “shout if you love Jesus” as they occupied the Capitol building.

Meanwhile the Christian flag – the red, white and blue emblem designed by a New York City Sunday school teacher in 1887 to unite and symbolize Christians worldwide – was one of the flags carried through the Capitol.

This blending of Christian imagery with Trump flags put Christian nationalism, the often militarized fusing of Christianity and American identity, on display during one of America’s darkest days.

Capitol Riots Put Focus on Some White Evangelicals' Role in Pro-Trump Extremism

evangelical leaders have been vocal in their opposition to the involvement of white Christian nationalism in pro-Trump rallies prior to the riots on Jan. 6, including a "prayer rally" held in Washington D.C., on Dec. 12 aimed at showing support for Trump’s fight to overturn the election.

Participants in the rally waved Bibles and Trump flags and listened to speeches from conspiracy theorist and radio host Alex Jones and former security adviser Michael Flynn, who told Christians to "pray, march, fast, and rally for election integrity,” saying that they had reached a "crucible moment" and "there has to be sacrifice." The crowd included thousands of Proud Boys, a militia movement that has been called a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center for its anti-Semitic and misogynistic messages. The rally turned violent that night when members of the Proud Boys clashed with counter-protesters.

Why would anyone believe the words of religion haters. They're biased because of their hate which automatically means what they say is worthless.

Fake Christians are a bane to both the religious and the not. These people actually follow Christ in emulation about as much as a Sumo follows Weight Watchers.

The nexus of White Christian nationalism, capitalism, colonialism, imperialism, militarism can basically be found at the root of a large proportion of world geopolitical problems for the past five centuries.

Christian Nationalism Is Worse Than You Think

As crowds lined up in front of the Capitol last week, Christian imagery was on display amidst the Trump/Pence 2020 and Confederate flags, QAnon memorabilia, and viking helmets. People held crosses, “Jesus Saves” signs and “Jesus 2020” banners. As protesters crowded onto the Capitol steps, across the street, someone blew a shofar while a woman sang “Peace in the name of Jesus. The blood of Jesus covering this place.”

In the aftermath of the Capitol attack, many saw a clear connection between the violence and Christian nationalism.

Actually Poland has encompassed all of those & Communism too.

    How many did Poland kill!?

Absolutely, Josef Pilsudski Poland was militaristic, imperialistic, capitalist & Nationalistic.

Maybe 150- 200 thousand were killed in Pilsudski wars mostly Soviet soldiers. ( Far cry from 100' s of millions killed between Western Euro wars like WW2, WW1, 30 year war & Napoleonic wars)

Poland in the 1930s became ultra Nationalist, even adopted many anti Semitic legislature but Poland remained isolationist & was the first to fight the Nazi invaders in WW2.

Just admit it Western Europeans are bad people.
