Yahoo News has the exclusive story: Large bitcoin payments to right-wing activists a month before Capitol riot linked to foreign account
Right-wing figures and websites, including VDARE, the Daily Stormer and Nick Fuentes, received generous donations from a bitcoin account linked to a French cryptocurrency exchange, according to research done by software company Chainalysis, which maintains a repository of information about public cryptocurrency exchanges and whose tools aid in government, law enforcement and private sector investigations. Chainalysis investigated the donations after Yahoo News shared the data points about the transaction.

Trump’s campaign manager at the time, Corey Lewandowski, denied that the campaign had hired warm bodies to boost the event’s audience, telling Business Insider, “You know Donald Trump. There is nobody who believes that when Donald Trump goes somewhere he does not generate the biggest, largest, and most rambunctious crowds on the planet. It’s just not true, unequivocally. The Donald Trump campaign and Donald Trump did not pay anybody to attend his announcement.”
The complaint to the Federal Election Commission was filed back in July 2015. In its complaint, the American Democracy Legal Fund claimed that by failing to disclose its alleged payment to the actors, Trump’s campaign had run afoul of the reporting provisions of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971.

In 2015, a sub-contractor hired by the Trump campaign to produce Trump's campaign rollout at Trump Tower put out a casting call to pay actors $50 for attending the event and holding signs.
Mariela Szwarcberg Daby, a political science professor at Reed College, told Insider that Trump's actions are a clear example of political clientelism, or promising political support, such as turning up for a rally or voting for a particular candidate, in exchange for particular goods or services.
