    Thanks for asking.

I just checked out his wiki page and learned that no, he was not a member of either party. I must have gotten the 'King was a Republican' misinformation from a conservative, assumed it was correct, and never verified it for myself. King said God would not have picked a party, so he didn't want to either. But it also appears that though he chose to be a member of neither party, he frequently voted with Democrats.

    I had it all wrong.

Glad you prompted me to look that up.
Same thing happened to me.. I was a conservatives & said that a few times until some lib called me on it & I had to do my homework..........
"There is no question former President Trump bears moral responsibility. His supporters stormed the Capitol because of the unhinged falsehoods he shouted into the world’s largest megaphone," McConnell wrote. "His behavior during and after the chaos was also unconscionable, from attacking Vice President Mike Pence during the riot to praising the criminals after it ended."

Right on. Good on ya. Amazing the things we can learn if we just do the homework ourselves. We all have to be willing to question things we already 'know.' The human brain is an incredible thing. We take in information and store it but we don't all get the same picture. Different individuals see different things. Each fills in details they didn't actually see. Unless those things are corrected they become things we 'know.' But they might not be real. The wise individual will question things they have taken for granted.

I used to attend a Columbus Day Celebration. It was big fun. Did it for years. Later on I found out that might not be the coolest thing to do. I eventually stopped, found other fun things to do. No big. Live, learn, move on.
