The dirty little secret is that it is a "holiday" of no importance in the Jewish religion. It is less important than an average sabbath. Christmas, and generally having a holiday around the winter solstice has risen it up to importance.

But VP-Elect Harris is right. The idea that separates it from Christmas is the idea of light. Christmas has light as an afterthought, but Hanukkah has light as the central miracle. We are shining a light in the darkest time of the year. As my ancestors moved north, and the darkest time of the year became darker, it seemed more important.

So you not only don't know about Hanukkah, you don't know about Christmas either.
