I think we can be assured that we will not see the foreign minister of Russia welcomed into the White House along with the Russian ambassador and given a tour of the Oval Office, along with a smattering of top-secret information that exposes intelligence sources and methods and damages our allies.

If a Saudi prince orders the murder of a Washington Post columnist, the new president of the United States won't be on the phone to him facilitating deals for F-35 fighters and greasing the rails for American companies to get cut-rate oil deals.

That is right up until you start looking at the polling. When you ask Americans if they're for "Medicare for all" that eliminates private insurance and providers, the numbers plummet. Democrats alone overwhelmingly support any sort of Medicare for all plan. Independents and Republicans are very much divided on this issue. Overall, the overwhelming support from Democrats and the Left skew the poll badly. The result is a very narrow majority would support government run universal healthcare (Medicare for all with no private alternative--or only very expensive private alternatives). A slightly larger majority supports a Medicare for all option so long as it doesn't affect their own current health care providers and insurance plans.

If the Progressive side of the isle pushes for universal government run health care, they'll lose. If they try to expand Obamacare to a Medicare for all alternative they might have better luck but they're still risking pushback from Independents and Republicans come election time. This is doubly true if the plan requires massive new taxes to pay for it--and it won't matter who they tax, that's not going to be popular.

A good, absolute proof of that is Trump moved the US embassy to Jerusalem to the howling of people like Moon. Yet, less than three years later Muslim states are lining up to put embassies in Israel and establishing diplomatic relations. For Muslim states like Bahrain, the UAE, Kuwait, or Oman, Iran represents an astronomically greater threat to them than Israel and they know it. Even Saudi Arabia recognizes that given the repeated drone and missile attacks on oil facilities in their country by Iranian terrorist factions and even Iran itself.

The problem with Medicare for All is those providers that can make a profit without being in that system are likely not to be in that system, particularly if the government is setting the payment schedule artificially low.

Aside from that, giving everyone Medicare doesn't solve the problem with those who can't pay the deductible or afford supplementary insurance. If you go to a system where these people are getting it for free with no payment then the costs become borne 100% by the government who will be forced to cover that with higher taxes on those who are employed. So, the end result is the government is almost forced by their actions to take over the whole system.
