I think the reaction to Yglesias is complete bullshit. He was not threatening anyone. Claiming it made you feel unsafe is just all part of this "micro aggression" bullshit which attempts to rationalize actual aggression.

But everyone has the right to talk about Rowling or criticize her. That's free speech. Being a tea sipping twerp you would not really understand.

Anyone who thinks Trump's threats against twitter over trending #DiaperDon is fine and then whines about cancel culture, is obviously just some fucking Nazi. You should be free to say what you want but not without being subject to the critical free speech of others who don't like what you say.

Cancel culture isn't as bad as everyone thinks it is. Louis CK is has still been doing comedy, James Gunn is still directing the Guardians franchise.

It's like reviews for products online, only the people that are dissatisfied tend to leave reviews because everyone expects something to work by default. Twitter amplifies these "negative reviews" on people's character, but the majority of people tend to not give a shit unless it's Weinstein or Cosby levels of shitty behavior.

I am much more bothered by it when it hits regular folks, like Emmanuel Cafferty, when there is no sense of due process.

Louis CK did act a bit creepy. What I have heard, was not criminal, but whatever. people are free not to want to hear his comedy anymore and to vote with their wallets against him.

Political correctness has grown to become the unhappiest religion in the world. Its once honourable attempt to reimagine our society in a more equitable way now embodies all the worst aspects that religion has to offer (and none of the beauty) — moral certainty and self-righteousness shorn even of the capacity for redemption. I think Fascists should be cancelled. People being cancelled isn't always a bad thing. I'm glad Bill Cosby was cancelled when we found out that he's a serial rapist.
However, celebrities are VERY rarely cancelled. So the idea of "cancel culture" is nonsensical. Mike Tyson is literally a convicted rapist and the public still loves him. Mel Gibson told his wife "if you get raped by a pack of niggers, it'll be your own fault" and he's still making movies.
