Nonsense. A democracy is not a republic. A republic is not a democracy. Democracies have no constitution, and no representatives. It is mob rule.
Republics have constitutions. It is rule by law, not by men.

WRONG. They have that authority because of the constitution of that government. That constitution also specifies when and how elections of representatives and officers are performed.

A government by constitution. That is the very definition of a republic. Note that there a several nations calling themselves a republic, but they aren't a republic.

The constitution specifies when and how the elections are conducted. It specifies what representatives and officers there are. It specifies what authority they have. It describes the structure of the government, including how many houses of representatives there are, how many representatives there are in each house, a judicial system, and an executive system. That's what a republic is.

You are describing a democracy. The United States is not a democracy and never was.
