I don't follow round-ball football, so at first quick glance, I thought the title said "Madonna."

I was relieved that she wasn't Italian anymore.

My own bad hearing convinced me that this footleballer was called Belladonna, but I've heard about him enough to know better than that now. Other than the fact that he once cheated England out of the Footleball World Cup, what you have to say here is the best I've heard about him, though I do hear rumours that he supported some excellent Latin-American politicians and suffered some bad habits bravely!

Same here. When I saw Argentinian flag (remember the Falklands War?) my first thought was "Who the fuck is Maradona and why should I give a shit?"

When I think of Argentina, I think of the middleweight champion boxer Carlos Monzon.

He was in prison for tossing his girlfriend off the balcony of a hotel, but as a national hero, he was given weekends off to visit brothels.
On the way back one week, he crashed his Lamborghini and died.

Never mind the Falklands War - they just beat the All Blacks at Rugby, which is astounding, and more than we can bloody do! I'm afraid I tend to share NiftyNiblick's apathy about soccer. My Grandfather attempted to introduce the game into this Valley once, and the family have striven hard to live down the shame ever since. Perhaps that is why I have the hairy prejudice that it is a rather effeminate form of ballet!

Never heard of him but a sincere thank you for an extremely odd bit of history:

Charged with killing his wife Alicia Muñiz in Mar del Plata in 1988, the former champion was sentenced to 11 years in jail. He died in a January 1995 car crash during a weekend furlough.

Sentenced to only 11 years for murdering a wife? How progressive! LOL
