Default Second stimulus check will move forward once Trump exits, Biden says

Congress will be more likely to negotiate on a second coronavirus relief package after President Trump leaves office in January, President-elect Joe Biden said Wednesday.

“Hopefully, when he’s gone, they will be more willing to do what they know should be done - has to be done - in order to save the communities they live in,” President-elect Joe Biden said.

President-elect Biden is expected to take office on Jan. 20, 2021 and experts predict there likely won’t be additional direct payments until the first quarter of 2021.

That could also depend on whether Republicans retain control of the Senate, something that won’t be certain until the Jan. 5 runoff for two U.S. Senate seats in Georgia.

Good luck with that given the split in Congress right now...

Doubtful, suddenly, Senate Republicans and the right wing media will miraculously remember their deficit/debt “principle”

The first stimulus check went out... With a divided Congress, and a divisive president. Biden is considered one of the best reaching across the aisle negotiator, so he has a better chance.

And if Republicans continue to block it for no good reason... Well they will pay the price in 2022.

Economists call for more stimulus checks

More than 125 economists are urging policymakers to provide more direct payments to Americans in order to help keep families out of poverty and help the economy recover from the coronavirus-related downturn.

"We urge policymakers to use all the tools at their disposal to revitalize the economy, including direct cash payments, which are one of the quickest, most equitable, and most effective ways to get families and the economy back on track," the economists wrote in an open letter, which was organized by the Economic Security Project.

Economists who signed the letter include Jason Furman, who served as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers during former President Obama's administration; Alan Blinder, who served as vice chairman of the Federal Reserve board during former President Clinton's administration; and Claudia Sahm, a former economist at the Fed.

The $2.2 trillion CARES Act enacted in March provided for one-time direct payments of up to $1,200 per adult and $500 per child.

The economists said in their letter that many families have experienced financial difficulties during the pandemic, and low-wage earners, women and Blacks have been hit particularly hard. The economists said that more direct payments would help millions, including undocumented immigrants who don't qualify for unemployment benefits.

"Stimulus checks have been an essential tool to keep the number of people in poverty from going even higher," the economists wrote.

"The direct cash payments in the CARES Act boosted the economy by increasing spending at all income levels, and the most among low-income people," they said. "Direct checks, especially if targeted to the bottom half of households, would ensure those struggling the most, particularly Black, Latinx, and Native American families, aren’t left behind."

The economists called for recurring direct payments to be paired with other forms of relief, aid to state and local governments and funding for free child care.

it's immensely disheartening to see you supposed american demanding that biden/congress pass a 4 trillion dollar stimulus plan where an individual only gets 1200 dollars...............what is your real plan?
A sad commentary on we, as a people, and our viewpoint of our freedom can be summed up like this. We have liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, yet those very people look at Constitutionalists as radical and extreme.................so those liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans must believe that the constitution is radical and extreme.

McConell is still there to block any effort to produce another stimulus package.

If the gop wins the Senate, there will be no Covid relief, if democrats win the Senate, relief is on the way

That should be an ad running in Georgia and stated by every democratic politician in America, instead of giving Americans false hope that democrats can deliver what they clearly cannot.

We will win in Georgia in January, and Vice President-elect Harris will cast the deciding vote if necessary.

The Lincoln Project has been most cooperative.

But the fact is that we don't need to persuade anyone.

You cannot persuade Trump to concede.
