not true. aerosol can even occur outside - much less likely -but it can.
The point is even in closed spaces with poor ventillation masks dont work -yet we treat them like they are
    a barrier to aerosol

masking doesn't do shit for Japan. the numbers are low because testing is low

Japan has so far taken a comparatively relaxed approach to the coronavirus with few of the strict curbs imposed elsewhere in the world. Even a nationwide state of emergency that was announced early in the year carried no obligation for businesses to close or for people to stay at home.

    Good point about testing.

Much of this stuff can be manipulated by the amount of testing done. For example if hospitals would stop testing asymptomatic admissions it would drop the hospitalization numbers. Fiddle around with coding and eliminate death with COVID and it would drop the death totals.

It’s done differently in different countries so it makes country to country comparisons a case of apples and oranges.

    I knew it.

There’s a caveat about *possible* efficacy in source control [study didn’t address that] so it’s probably not going to change anything policy wise but it can no longer be said that masks protect the wearer without going beyond what ‘science says’.

At this point, that’s an article of faith until a Gold Standard study comes out on it.

Who will be first to share their faith?
Try reading the report not portions.

Observational evidence suggests that mask wearing mitigates transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It is uncertain if this observed association arises through protection of uninfected wearers (protective effect), via reduced transmission from infected mask wearers (source control), or both.

    Objective:
To assess whether recommending surgical mask use outside the home reduces wearers' risk for SARS-CoV-2 infection in a setting where masks were uncommon and not among recommended public health measures.

You are taking the report out of context. But if you think you know better than your doctor have a nut.

    You poor fucking morons.

I heard about a nurse saying that she had people dying of covid who were insisting they were dying of cancer, rather than acknowledging they had been had by Trump.

There is no bottom to STUPID for people like you, Darth.

In any case, my "recommendation" for you is...DO NOT WEAR A MASK.And you really should volunteer to help in wards where covid patients are being treated.

You would be doing America and the world a heap of good if you did.
ON HIS WORST DAY, JOE BIDEN IS A BETTER PRESIDENT THAN TRUMP WAS ON HIS BEST DAY!

He was a operating theatre technician so chances are he does know more than most doctors about the prevention of infections!

That is like saying a aircraft mechanic knows more about flying a plane than a pilot.

No, the study wasn’t an observational study it was a random control study. Your copied portion was the authors commenting *other* observational studies done that suggested masks worked.

Try reading the rest of your copied paragraph starting at “Here..”

    Correlation doesn’t equal causation.

If what you say is true then they contradicted themselves with this:

“Recommendation to wear a surgical mask when outside the home among others did not reduce, at conventional levels of statistical significance, incident SARS-CoV-2 infection compared with no mask recommendation.”

They couldn’t find a statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of protection from transmission.

End of story. Next, they need to do an RCT study on source protection and the rate of transmission from contaminated masks and we can close the loop on this thing.
