Feds arrest Mass. senator on corruption charges

By GLEN JOHNSON and DENISE LAVOIE
    Associated Press Writers

BOSTON (AP) -- A state senator who lost the Democratic primary last month was arrested by the FBI on Tuesday and charged with accepting $23,500 in bribes from undercover agents she believed were local businessmen.

Sen. Dianne Wilkerson was charged with attempted extortion as a public official and theft of honest services as a state senator. She faces up to 20 years in prison and $250,000 in fines on each count.

Wilkerson, 53, lost the Democratic primary in September to Sonia Chang-Diaz despite support from Mayor Thomas Menino and Gov. Deval Patrick. She is running a write-in campaign for the Nov. 4 election, in hopes of retaining the seat she has held since 1993.

U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan said it was coincidental the complaint was filed a week before the election. Wilkerson's attorney, Max Stern, did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press for comment

Bush doubled the debt from 5 trillion to 10 trillion.
    Proving tax cuts work!

Bush asked for and signed for the TARP money.
The Republican senate leader backed Bush on this.

Ill tell you what. Witnessing the absolute disgusting corruption of democrats in the Massachusetts legislature is the single #1 reason why I dislike that party so much and have rarely voted for any. Its appalling.
Q: Senator Obama, would you take the same pledge? No tax increases on people under $250,000?

OBAMA: I not only have pledged not to raise their taxes, I've been the first candidate in this race to specifically say I would cut their taxes.

I just feel that this is what most of them come to.....republican or democrat. They might (...a slight "might") be honest when they get there but are likely not by the time they leave. It sours a person on politics.

They got her for bribery, but they have yet to charge Ted Kennedy for murder. Could it be because she is BLACK.

I agree with you. I think the whole system of repubs and dems is just to keep us from offering any significant resistance to their system. That way the crooks get to keep screwing us without even buying us dinner.

A two party system ultimately reduces to a state where the two parties have no real beliefs but getting elected again and getting more power.

I am going to have to agree with Watermark here. I've read a dozen of his posts today and finally found one I have to agree with.
