Default As your new president, Joe Biden will transform education

Education is fundamental to the idea of America and to fulfilling our nation’s promise.

It is the key to addressing the challenges before us—to growing our economy, restoring American prestige on the world stage, and building a more just, equitable, civically engaged, and socially conscientious nation.

Intelligent people know that education is a critical public good and that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure that every child, everywhere, is able to receive free education, no matter their race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, religion, disability status, language status, immigration or citizenship status, household income or ZIP code.

Joe Biden knows we can and must do better for children and our educators.

The Biden-Harris Administration is committed to making the investments our students and teachers need to build equity and safeguard humanity in our educational system and guarantee every child can receive a free education.

To this end, President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will support new federally-funded K-12 instruction plans in civics, history, and climate literacy.

The Biden-Harris Administration will support evidence-based programs and pedagogical approaches, including alternative assessments that consider the well-being of the whole student and recognize the range of ways students can demonstrate learning.

The Biden-Harris Administration will re-imagine our education system guided by the stakeholders and passionate educators who know these issues best: young people, educators, parents, and community leaders.

Intelligent people know our education system should prepare all our students to be properly informed, engaged citizens of our planet.

Intelligent people know that all children across the United States should have access to high-quality early childhood education programs at no cost to the parent(s).

The Biden-Harris Administration will require states to offer pre-K instruction for all three- and four-year-olds and President Biden will expand Head Start and Early Head Start.

The education reforms implemented by the Biden-Harris Administration will drive increased federal resources to the communities with the highest need, including those with the highest concentrations of low-income students, impoverished urban areas impacted by gentrification, and will strive to support holistic school readiness.

President Biden also will ensure that English language learners have access to federally-funded early childhood programs regardless of immigration status.

Intelligent people recognize that learning starts at birth, and the exorbitant costs of safe, quality child care present a significant economic burden to families.

Joe Biden supports making child care and dependent tax credits significantly more generous and will increase funding to states to guarantee that low-income minority families can afford child care.

As our new president, Joe Biden will make major investments to increase quality options for parents and increase compensation for providers.

The incoming Biden-Harris Administration also supports expanding free programs for low-income and first-time parents, guardians, and caregivers, including home visiting, that can help connect families in need to child care, education, and child development opportunities and improve outcomes for children and parents alike.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris believe that early childhood educators, like all educators and all workers, should be paid a family-supporting wage, have access to extensive benefits and paid leave, and be able to organize, join a union, and collectively bargain for better wages, benefits, and working conditions.

Each year, the United States spends $23 billion more on schools in predominantly white districts than in non-white districts.

Using property taxes to fund public K-12 schools results in inequitable treatment for minority students in low-income school districts, compared to those in wealthier areas.

The Biden-Harris Administration will be committed to closing the school funding gap by tripling Title I funding, which benefits schools that serve low-income students, and requiring states to adopt progressive funding formulas that direct resources to the schools that need it most

As our next president, Joe Biden will also ensure sustainable, reliable funding for rural schools, schools in impoverished urban areas impacted by gentrification, and Bureau of Indian Education schools.

I'm not talking about what they support or believe but what they do. We don't know how to accomplish most of these goals regardless of how much money they spend, DNC "official"

When I was growing up, American schools were the envy of the world. Inner-city schools competed and won sometimes against wealthy suburban schools. We had sports, music, foreign languages. Poli Sci, and opportunity.
To take schools over for profit, they first had to be destroyed. That is what the wealthy with power do. They have been working on the post office for a long time. They are getting close now.
I hope Biden does have a way to fix them, but he will be fighting against big, powerful money.
The wealthy care about public schools like Trump cares about the regular guy. zero

Kind of sounds like what the segregationist said back in the day justifying separate but equal with your first couple of sentences.

Education is largely handled at the state and local level. You think President's have some all encompassing power to dictate what happens at your local school? Hard to believe you don't understand how this works.

Children leaning from their parents and at home isn't about the money, it's about the parents interacting with their kids in positive ways and having an environment that encourages learning. If a child is growing up in a home without books, magazines, and such in it, parents who are disinterested in learning and knowledge, and the major entertainment is a television and video games, there isn't going to be much learning going on regardless of how much money that family makes.

There is no known correlation between spending on education and quality of outcomes.

    https://thehill.com/opinion/educatio...comes-for-kids

The quality of life and how well educated parents are usually has far more impact on children and learning than school alone does. By quality of life I mean exposure to ideas and knowledge not having a bigger, better flat screen television or a brand new house.

Hey DNC! How do you feel about these in education:

    Common core?

    Critical pedagogy?

    Social and economic justice?
