A bar can cater to a group, but that doesn't mean it will do well that way. To be honest, somebody invited me to a bar long time ago. I asked what kind of bar it was. He said it was an "alternative lifestyle" bar. That was the last time I ever went. LOL.

I haven't bar hopped in 25 years. The last time was with my girlfriend in Key West. I was working out of Miami and would often spend 1-3 days with her once a week. She was a big hotel manager and knew many of the other hotel managers, most of whom were gay. This was 90s with Clinton coming in talking about gays in the military. Up to that point I'd only known one person who admitted they were gay. Then I was meeting four and, related to your post, going with them and my GF to bars, often gay bars. Being with my GF, it didn't matter since the beer tasted the same but it was an interesting experience.

Straight bars.
Cowboy bars. (I loved their dances)
Motorcycle bars. (My very good friend invited me there. It was cool but I was scared)
Gay bars.
Leather bars.
LGBT bars.
I don't recall going to a rock n roll bar but I've been to concerts.

One thing's in common - people are nice and friendly. They don't bother you.
