GOP senators pondering action if Trump loses and refuses to step down, Carl Bernstein

Several “terribly concerned” Republican senators are starting to plan how they’ll crack down on President Trump if he loses the election but refuses to accept defeat, journalist Carl Bernstein says.

“They are very, very worried about it,” the famed Watergate journalist told CNN’s Ana Cabrera on Sunday.

He said as many as 10 senators are “trying to come together” to “make a plan that if the president provokes a constitutional crisis, which they believe he will, they will try to find a way to let law and order and the Constitution prevail.”

The GOP senators are “talking with each other about how to restrain what they regard as an out-of-control, almost madman” who is “determined to do anything to hold on to office regardless of its legality, regardless of how far it crosses lines that are unthinkable in terms of authoritarianism,” Bernstein said.

Bernstein didn’t name any of the Republican senators but said some are talking to Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell about their concerns.

“McConnell too is worried about what this president is liable to do,” he said. “There is real concern because the Republican party can be held responsible for (Trump’s) actions if they don’t do something about his provocative acts to undermine the Constitution if he goes as far in his scorched-earth campaign as they fear he will.”

Asked by Cabrera about Trump’s “wishy-washy” comments on whether he’ll accept the election results, Bernstein said he believes Trump has been clear he’ll challenge the electoral process if he loses.

“I don’t think he’s been wishy-washy about it. I think he’s been very strenuous about telling people around him that he intends to use every tool at his command to see that there is no way that the Democrats and Joe Biden can win this election,” he said.

“(Trump) is setting up an apparatus and a methodology in which he intends to prolong the count, to make it impossible perhaps for the Electoral College, when it’s supposed to meet, to reach a majority. That’s part of his strategy,” the journalist said.

Bernstein said the only way Trump is likely to accept a defeat is if there’s a “landslide” that’s “undeniable.”

tRump has gone to extreme gutter methods like before in order to get lawlessly hacked in there among Russians and sold out republicans in violation of U.S. Constitutional law that resulted in four crappy years without a legitimate POTUS. Now tRump is back in the gutter again among his fellow un American scumbags and even at SCOTUS sleazing and whoring around to destroy the legitimacy of another election in the devil or tRump's un American favor. The objective is not only to go on a further destructive rampage against humanity, cause a greater curse to befall on humanity but using the currently coronavirus contaminated White House to avoid staying out of prison. Yet tRump and his hell bound kissers should realize tRump is not invincible and if he and they think he and his criminal family will be in the White House forever as filthy vagrants are absolute fools because tRump's time is limited. Yet if Justice, the will of the majority voter, un corrupted electoral college and U.S. Constitutional law prevails this time, tRump will be leaving the White House be it by his own free will or hopefully get hauled out of there to experience a long time coming affect of Justice and retribution to be served on his stinking hide in particular.
