I'm not sure, but it's possible that they lost their jobs as most SNAP recipients tend to work in low-income jobs like server, janitor, housekeeping, etc. For instance, here none of our fast-food chain stores are open for inside dining. They are making more money by just offering drive-through service. They need far fewer employees now.

Not basically, SNAP *is* "food stamps." Work is required to receive the benefit unless you are disabled or otherwise unable to work (i.e., you're a child).
