Trump is just appeasing the right’s decades old obsession with getting rid of Social Security, for years, prior to Trump, they couldn’t stop talking deficit and debt, while they did nothing about it, in fact since Reagan, contributed to it, leading to some point where they will use that argument to attack entitlements. Ryan was on this path, and it won’t be an open elimination, but a subtle chipping away with promises of something “bigger, better, tremendous, best in history, the likes of which no one has ever seen”
