An sulfuric acid mixture is pumped into a copper formation, particularly low grade secondary copper like malachite and azurite where it dissolves the copper into copper sulfate and is then pumped back to the surface for recovery of the copper by electrolysis.

Fracking merely "squeezes out" large stores of petroleum that did not flow out on its own. They just use a high-pressure water-based solution to fracture the rock under intense pressure and squeeze the petroleum out.
