He said his kids would grow up in a racial jungle due to desegregation. He said a racial jungle would be filled with tension and eventually explode. Thats why he opposed desegregation

Communities were, and in many cases, still are one of the most segregated areas within society. If you went to the community school and your community was predominantly one race, so was your school. It wasn't by law that segregation occurred but by the fact of how things were organized and how where you went to school was determined. Integration was the effort to deal with de facto not de jure segregation. Busing was the method used to change it.
