California will phase out the sale of all gasoline-powered vehicles by 2035 in a bid to lead the U.S. in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by encouraging the state's drivers to switch to electric cars.

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed an executive order Wednesday that amounts to the most aggressive clean-car policy in the United States. Although it bans the sale of new gas cars and trucks after the 15-year deadline, it will still allow such vehicles to be owned and sold on the used-car market.

"This is the most impactful step our state can take to fight climate change," the governor said in a statement.

"Our cars shouldn't make wildfires worse — and create more days filled with smoky air. Cars shouldn't melt glaciers or raise sea levels threatening our cherished beaches and coastlines."

Newsom, a Democrat, also threw his support behind a ban on petroleum fracking but called on the California Legislature to make that change.

The next step will be a royal decree that all gas and diesel cars and trucks registered in the state will get a special hefty yearly tax, in order to force them to be sold out of state.

I think trucks should no longer deliver to anywhere in the SOTC, nor pick up anything in the SOTC, nor travel on any road in the SOTC. Let them fend for themselves.

California does not have the power Nordberg. Hence the rolling blackouts. They are refusing to build more power plants. And ah, guess what happens when the power lines burn down in wildfires? No one is against electric vehicles Nordberg. The left needs to get it through their heads we do not have the infrastructure nor power capacity to do that. Yet.

Run. Get out of the SOTC while you still can. Your only other option is to overthrow the oligarchy in Sacramento and to re-establish a republic. That can only happen by violence now.

The get around this would be for some company to start doing what the truck industry is already doing... Glider "cars." That is a completely new car with a rebuilt old engine in it. If Newsome's diktat follows previous California law on this, it's the engine that matters, not the age of the vehicle.

They already do this with commercial trucks. Take a brand new truck without an engine and put an old but completely remanufactured and good as new engine in it. That makes it emissions complaint for the year of the engine, not the truck and legal. It's a work around to idiot environmental laws.

Nice try, but it won't work when gasoline and diesel engines are banned completely.

Piddle power. It won't create enough power for your electric car to go across country. It won't create enough power for shipping purposes. It won't run factories or businesses by itself. It won't generate power at night, when power is in demand. Expensive too. Installing them requires manufacturing and shipping that uses oil for fuel.

Go sit in your hut and enjoy your non-air conditioned life.
