A Canadian woman suspected of mailing a package containing ricin to the White House last week appeared in court Tuesday afternoon where she pleaded not guilty.
Pascale Ferrier, of Quebec, was arrested Sunday at the New York-Canada border on a charge of threatening the president. Her court appearance was brief and U.S. Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder Jr. entered a not-guilty plea on her behalf.
The package, postmarked from Canada and addressed to the White House, was sent sometime last week and intercepted at a mail sorting facility on Friday. It included a letter that included disparaging remarks about the president, according to an FBI affidavit filed in the case.
During the investigation, the FBI discovered that six additional similar letters appeared to have been received in Texas in September and also had stamps indicating that they'd been mailed from Canada, according to court papers.
Those letters "contained similar language" to the letter that was sent to Trump and were sent to people affiliated with facilities where Ferrier had been jailed in 2019.
Investigators also matched Ferrier's fingerprints from four of the letters, the complaint said. In Facebook and Twitter posts in September, Ferrier also wrote threatening messages against the president and used similar wording as she did in the letter, according to the document.
When she was arrested Sunday while trying to enter a border crossing in Buffalo, Ferrier told Customs and Border Patrol agents that she was "wanted by the FBI for the ricin letters," the complaint said.
Officers found a loaded gun in her waistband and said she was also carrying a knife.
Ferrier was booked into the Hidalgo County jail in March of 2019 on two charges of unlawfully carrying a weapon and one charge of tampering with government records, according to online jail records.
Through an interpreter and her attorney, she also asked for an identity hearing — which would compel the government to prove that she is indeed the person for whom the arrest warrant was issued — and a probable cause hearing for the government to prove there is sufficient cause to proceed in the case.
The judge ordered her held without bail.

One resident, Terrence Moses, described what happened when they hit his street.
Mr. Moses was initially not sure what the protesters were upset about, but as he got closer, he saw it: His neighbors had an American flag on display.
“It went from a peaceful march, calling out the names, to all of a sudden, bang, ‘How dare you fly the American flag?’” said Mr. Moses, who is Black and runs a nonprofit group in the Portland, Ore., area.
“They said take it down. They wouldn’t leave. They said they’re going to come back and burn the house down.”
“We don’t go around terrorizing folks to try and force them to do something they don’t want to do,” said Mr. Moses, whose nonprofit group provides support for local homeless people.

WHAT SHE WROTE SOUNDS LIKE ANY NUMBER OF JPP LEFTISTS
She called on President Trump to drop out of the US presidential race.
"I found a new name for you: 'The Ugly Tyrant Clown'," she wrote, according to FBI charging documents.
"I hope you like it. You ruin USA and lead them to disaster. I have US cousins, then I don't want the next 4 years with you as president. Give up and remove your application for this election."
The letter, which had her fingerprints on it, referred to the poisoned note as "a special gift", adding: "If it doesn't work, I'll find better recipe for another poison, or I might use my gun when I'll be able to come. "
Officers found a gun, knife and ammunition in her car at the time of her arrest.
In March 2019, she was arrested in Texas for unlawfully carrying a weapon and using a fake driver's licence, according to jail records.
She was deported to Canada after officials found she had overstayed her visa and committed a crime while in the US.

DARTH, GET IN HERE, LOL
A college professor in West Virginia has been placed on leave after telling her students that she hopes supporters of a “certain person” running for president get coronavirus “and die before the election.”
Video posted on social media identifies the teacher as Jennifer Mosher, a biology professor at Marshall University who made the inflammatory comments during an online class.
“I’ve become the type of person where I hope they all get it and die, I’m sorry,” she said, most likely referring to some supporters of President Trump, who don’t wear masks at campaign rallies. “I said to somebody yesterday, I hope they all die before the election. That’s the only saving hope I have.”
She doesn’t refer to Trump by name but says a “certain person is holding rallies.”
Mosher then notes, “I really should not be talking politics.”
It’s unclear when Mosher made the comments, but a statement from Marshall University on Friday said it became “aware of an overtly political statement made by a faculty member.”
“The university does not support or condone the use of any of its educational platforms to belittle people or wish harm on those who hold differing political views,” the statement said. “The professor was removed from the classroom yesterday and is on administrative leave, pending an investigation. There will be no further comment on this personnel matter at this time.”
