When Trump appoints a third justice, the Supreme Court will be the most conservative it's been since 1950
5-to-4 decisions could become less likely.
When conservatives have only a bare majority on the court, as they did until this weekend, leftists could win by pulling only one justice to their side.
That happened in June Medical Services v. Russo, when Chief Justice John Roberts sided with leftists in a case about abortion law, writing that he did so out of respect for court precedent.
But when there are six conservative justices, leftists would have to win over two justices to prevail, a more remote possibility.
