I think it is likely that some of his picks would not be far left enough for some of the folks he wants to vote for him. If he leaves everybody in the dark he doesn't have to explain, or lose votes. It is unique, and one of the reasons I voted Trump in 2016, the main reason was a vote against Hillary, the secondary reasons are SCOTUS and Judicial appointees and regulatory ideation.
