Hello Dutch Uncle,
?
I don't see that happening. I see that in the exact same light as the predictions of America breaking into violence following the election. Sure, a few wackos may go off the deep end. They will be dealt with by the authorities and be called nutjobs by talking heads, end of story, nation goes on, news cycle moves on to the next story.
Personal Ignore Policy PIP: I like civil discourse. I will give you all the respect in the world if you respect me. Mouth off to me, or express overt racism, you will be PERMANENTLY Ignore Listed. Zero tolerance. No exceptions. I'll never read a word you write, even if quoted by another, nor respond to you, nor participate in your threads. ... Ignore the shallow. Cherish the thoughtful. Long Live Civil Discourse, Mutual Respect, and Good Debate! ps: Feel free to adopt my PIP. It works well.
Disagreed. People react, but most react proportionately.
RWNJs have been predicting Civil War ever since Obama was elected. Didn't happen, of course, but those idiots don't understand the dynamics at work. The Sixties were a lot more violent and wider spread than anything the USA has had in this century. Anything.
That's not to say government actions couldn't result in as large a group of Americans erupting into open dissent rivaling the 1960s or greater.
An old truism is "the most dangerous man in the world is a man with nothing to lose." This is the logic behind all revolutions including suicide bombers. Push people hard enough and they'll push back. This is a natural human reaction. The key for government assholes is to push but not so hard they all end up hanging by their heels from the palace gates.

The largest 60's protest was the End the Vietnam War protest, which was 500,000 people.
BLM had about 26,000,000 people, according to the links in Wiki.
Even the Women's March in 2017 had more people than the largest protest of the 60's.
Old white people like to pretend that they were protesting during the 60's, but they weren't. They considered MLK a radical socialist.

I don't care if you're a dem or a republican or even a rastfarian. I've been listening to variations of the "fundamental change" mantra for 12 years now. How do you get any kind of change from Trump exercising his constitutional duty to nominate a SCOTUS justice(and keep in mind, there are I believe, 29 cases of precedence for this exact situation)? And what would be wrong with 9 textualists on the court anyway? Nine people, no left, no right, no "interpretation" of the Constitution. Just point to the appropriate article and say "next case, let's move it along". This would be great for the jackasses too. Imagine having to draft legislation that would be constitutionally vetted so it wouldn't have to go to the SCOTUS in the first place! People would start thinking you guys might be capable of higher order thought!
