But will we develop a herd mentality as the President says?
"It would go away without the vaccine ... but it's going to go away a lot faster with it," he said. "You'll develop ... a herd mentality."

    Neither. They're both likely wrong.

COVID-19 isn't going away. People can't swallow this hard truth, so they deny in the way they deny global warming.

    Alt-Walt:

You don’t know what you’re trying to talk about lol. It’s not necessary that *everyone* get vaccinated: only a sufficient number such that it achieves herd immunity.

Our herd immunity number could be as low as 20% of the population if T-cells and cross-reactive immune factors are playing a significant role. Now, on the individual level, it’s certainly advisable that the vulnerable individuals be vaccinated. We/they know who they are by now. Vaccinating kids is pointless.

The only thing that can make the virus go away, literally, is the virus. Post herd immunity, it will likely stay around and infect individuals here and there but it will cease to be a major concern. Or it could possibly mutate itself into just another Corona virus.

Many think people are racing for a vaccine before the election but it might be other reasoning for others. Soon after is the make or break time of economic activity for the year from Thanksgiving leading up to Christmas.

You are confused again. As long as there is a reservoir of the virus, herd immunity means we are constantly dealing with outbreaks. We need to ring fence the virus, and wipe out the virus... BECAUSE THE VIRUS WILL NEVER STOP ATTACKING!!! Your theory that the virus will give up if we can make it feel bad is nonsense. Viruses neither give up nor have feelings.

See that is a huge reservoir and contagion vector that you would leave open. If we have a vaccine with less than 50% effectiveness for under a year, then leaving this reservoir and vector open means we will see a year of worsening contagion followed by a complete collapse of America.

Alt-Walt, reading Panic Porn will stunt your growth and turn you into a raging hypochondriac lol.

Again, you’re clueless: there is no ‘absolutely eradicating’ COVID virus. The goal is to get to herd immunity so that another *epidemic* is off the table. It DOES NOT NEED TO BE ERADICATED.

Ebola is not eradicated but the infection rate is so minimal [non-existent *here*] that’s it’s absolutely irrelevant from a public policy perspective. Ebola is still endemic in parts of Africa. That’s where we need to get with COVID. That’s are goal. If even a thousand people die from COVID per year—it still means we won.

    Bigly.

If you’re bored and want to frighten yourself, consider the possibility that Ebola could get here. It would make the China Virus that came from China look like a park picnic.

Ebola is hemorrhagic. You know what that means, Alt-Walt? It should frighten you.

Trump is a dumb fuck but he feels qualified to run an epidemic. His aims are not about health of the people but his election. He thinks his control will help it. Everything he does distills down to him. He has no interest in the 200,000 deaths. He has not even been able to feign sympathy for those who died or their families. Just less people he might have to shake hands with.

We absolutely eradicated Smallpox, and are on the verge of eradicating Polio. We have eradicated Ebola from human populations, but there are still non-human reservoirs out there. In theory, there will still be non-human reservoirs of Covid-19, but there is hope of eradicating the human reservoirs.

America has not gotten through with the first wave, which is a real problem. But if we were able to ever get through with the first wave, then preventing further waves would become the priority. Your plan (doing no work, and hoping we get lucky) has not only failed to end the first wave, but does not look promising for getting rid of the second wave.

Because viruses keep attacking, herd immunity only is as good as long as herd immunity is strong. It appears to fade with Covid-19 in a few months. That would mean we would have yearly pandemics.
Even with herd immunity, without controlling it we would have outbreaks. If we do not start seriously fighting Covid-19, it is going to do a lot of long term damage to our culture.

You are several years out of date. Ebola has been re-eliminated from human populations in Africa.

Someone being contagious with Ebola has always been fairly obvious. It is as you say hemorrhagic. The scary diseases spread silently. HIV, and yes Covid-19 both are spread by people without symptoms. Influenza, and Covid-19, again, are spread by people with minor symptoms. These are the real dangers.

The question to Redfield that he plainly answered was when would a vaccine be generally available to the public. Fauci did not contradict that and Redfield was not misunderstood. His answer was perfectly clear. It was Trump who confused the thing, on purpose.

When Trump does his everyday variations on "up is down" it never fails that the legions are in lock step saying, "oh, yes, up is down."
