It's astonishing to see how TDS has infested the leftist media.

These two articles were printed in the same (failing) "news" paper about 10 months apart. Spot the difference:

Nothing is as helpful in Trump World as not knowing what you are talking about. Slightly more than half of the forested land in California is owned by the federal government, most of the rest is privately owned. The state owns just three percent. You should be asking why didn't Donald Trump work off a few bloated pounds by setting and example for his Interior Department with a rake in the woods?

So it's the private home owners fault. Got it.

You didn't mention by far the largest land owner so you don't get it obviously. But you guys seldom do.

What percentage of the burning homes are on Federal land?

If the best you can do is resort to a dumb question it's better to shut up. The answer makes no difference to the responsibility of the Federal Government to manage its millions of square acres of forest, some millions of them now or lately on fire, if the failure of such "management" is the issue.

Of course it makes a difference. All Cali had to do was protect homeowners, NOT millions of acres of wild natural forests.

Good of you to recognize that "millions of acres of wild natural forests" are not reasonably subject to management. I'll look again but I didn't see any mention of "controlled burns" or "clearing leaves". This is different from the senseless argument we've been hearing about the fault of the Governor. The neighborhoods that burned were in the paths of the massive fires that spawned in and exploded from those forests. Just a modicum of reason like that hinted at in your post would help keep us all in a realm of reality instead of the witless realms this forum and others like it regularly fly into.

Some large natural fires, in Nature, are unavoidable. This is basic environmental science. All you can do is focus on protecting Homes.

And typically, the only people living on Federal Land are gov't employees. But go ahead and keep the percentage of homes on Federal land a big secret.

They do logging, I have seen zillions racing down the hill on small one lane roads........

There are also many private stands in the state........

I see ppl posting shit on social media-this is what a forest should look like... I guess they think the fuckin elves are going to manicure it??

Maybe deer & bear eat the trees???

A natural forest has burn all over it, that is the natural order........

Since they can't let it burn since ppl have moved out there, the other alternatives are log them out, or let mother nature take care of it........

Yep...... The major source in the recent fires is lightening, particularly dry lightening-no rain associated w/ it...

Ppl don't seem to realize that when they go out & stop a fire, they are not preventing fire, but prolonging it..

The north complex fire burning now in Northern Calif is an example..

The south complex burned a few years ago & they managed to get it out~now the rest is burning...........

    Hello Damocles,

Well we can't prove it but it is widely accepted. Given that it is a very real possibility, even if not proven, the wise thing for us to do is assume it is real and act accordingly. Especially since there is a big lag time between our collective actions and the climate actually changing.

Kinda like baking a turkey doesn't happen in 5 minutes, changing a planet's climate doesn't happen in 5 years.

If we want to be sure humans have the best shot at agreeable climate in decades and centuries to come, we have to take action now. If we get it wrong, there is no easy fix for that. Big problems. So we need to take the wise precaution and make sure humanity's habitat is as safe as can be, given what we can realistically do.

I guess if it's not too steep for roads then it can be logged.

True, it makes no sense to build and let fuel accumulate forever.

I always wonder about that when watching 'Off Grid Build.'

These people all want a cabin in the woods but few of them look able to sustain a wildfire. Some episodes even have to suspend building because fire getting too close. Like, if you needed a warning, here's your sign?

But why did all these people have the idea they could have a cabin in the woods?

Was the climate more conducive to that in the past? And it's now changing?

Calif is a massive state w/ over 33 million acres of forest, so yea, lots of it can be logged, not all of it, & "raking" isn't going to work on much of it.......

I dunno when they "assumed" their gawd given right to have their property protected @ all costs out in the middle of nowhere, but da gubment has been spending Billions & lost lives to protect it..........

"you build, you & your insurance assume the risk"...........

I have had land out there for the last 30+ years & no more..

Two of those are now threatened in the current North complex fire but really it is just a matter of time before they'll burn.. I just looked @ goggle earth & all the trees etc are still there + one new house..........
