Well we can't prove it but it is widely accepted. Given that it is a very real possibility, even if not proven, the wise thing for us to do is assume it is real and act accordingly. Especially since there is a big lag time between our collective actions and the climate actually changing.
Kinda like baking a turkey doesn't happen in 5 minutes, changing a planet's climate doesn't happen in 5 years.
If we want to be sure humans have the best shot at agreeable climate in decades and centuries to come, we have to take action now. If we get it wrong, there is no easy fix for that. Big problems. So we need to take the wise precaution and make sure humanity's habitat is as safe as can be, given what we can realistically do.
