The Social Democratic Party represented the mainstream German left.

The German left, including the Social Democratic Party were the only Germans who opposed Hitler in any meaningful way. The German right and Prussian conservatives went along with Hitler.

After the 1933 Nazi Coup, the leadership of the Social Democratic Party were arrested, killed, oppressed by the Nazis.
