Earl lives within an hours drive of ATL, anchovies.

In the past, ATL was a relatively safe city. My daughter lived there and we visited often...I had Braves season tickets.

She moved near me and the Braves built a new ballpark on the north side.

No need to visit the Democrat controlled city any longer. Especially with the BLM and ANTIFA riots.

Trump is hardly the only one in this country calling out the rioting/looting going on in various cities across the country.

Purely conjecture on my part but this is how I see the view of many (white) liberals on this. You support the protests but may not fully support the smashing of buildings, the looting etc. However you see people on the right, but especially Trump, complain about it and it’s being done in liberal cities with progressive Mayors so therefore you are more sympathetic to the actions of the rioters/looters because the old adage ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’.

I literally walked around Chicago with my mother and a suitcase back in 2014. We took a train in to visit my brother downtown where parking is iffy or a fortune. I wouldn't want to live there but it's quite nice.

Plenty of cities across the country have had protests and even property destroyed. Portland, Seattle and Chicago have taken all this to a whole other level. I find it difficult to believe at the core many liberals look at what's happening and think it's a good thing (some for sure do but I don't think most). But in such a highly charged political environment people are going to defend 'their side' over all else. And thus if you see liberal run/dominated cities being 'attacked' by those on the right the nature of tribalism says you will defend these cities even if you may not agree with what's happening in them.
