Many businesses look at fleeing Minneapolis

    August 10, 2020

"A few days ago, John explored the story of how as many as one-third of the currently serving police officers in Minneapolis may be taking an early exit from their careers and the dearth of potential replacements available. While it’s hard to blame the cops for considering clearing out of town under the current conditions, they may have company as they’re loading up the U-Haul rental trucks. A number of business owners in Minneapolis appear to have had it with their properties being smashed, emptied and set on fire. And if some semblance of normalcy and security can’t be restored, they will be looking to relocate to somewhere safer and taking all of their jobs with them.

A new survey by the Downtown Council shows 45 business owners say they are considering leaving downtown – citing the lack of people working or socializing downtown – and the idea that the police department could be dismantled.

Though they won’t say which businesses are considering pulling out of downtown, the council says one of the businesses employs 600 people.

That could mean a lot of empty spaces.

“We are seeing a lot of restaurants take a hit right now,” says realtor Kris Lindahl. He says to expect shared kitchens for restaurants and smaller spaces in general.
One factor in these decisions is definitely the government restrictions and social distancing requirements imposed on all businesses. Restaurants and bars in particular have had a rough time of it, but retail stores aren’t much better off. Limiting customer access to as little as one-quarter capacity and having fewer checkout stations translates to long lines and not all customers are willing to wait. Conducting business outdoors simply isn’t an option for everyone, and that’s particularly true in Minnesota when winter rolls around.

But those aren’t the only reasons that these employers are looking at pulling up stakes. The Downtown Council notes that virtually all of the owners thinking of moving on cited as a concern “the idea that the police department could be dismantled.”

Does this honestly come as a surprise to anyone? The need for a police department became glaringly obvious during the recent riots, particularly when they failed to show up. But even if the city somehow manages to return to a more “normal” state (whatever that means these days), you still need cops to discourage criminals who might otherwise go on emptying the stores anyway. And customers will not be as willing to come to the downtown area to go shopping if they don’t feel secure."

    My niece lives there.

I advised her to move back to her small home town in northern Wisconsin.

Minneapolis is no longer part of America. It's part of Somalia.

These cities controlled by Democrats are a disgrace.

    Indeed.

This is a coordinated plan for chaos to affect the Nov. election.

People, including small children, are being killed, businesses looted and burned, assaults and murders.

The Democrats know this yet they will not stop it.

Middle Americans are watching and will respond in November.

Seattle Mayor and City council voted to cut pay for police, disband the swat team and another major unit that fights crime

This is after those cops went through months of hell and the crime rate has SOARED in Seattle...its going to get much much worse for the Residents

Some say that these cities that Democrats control deserve what is happening because they vote for these far left loons.

All voters did not vote for them, especially the children who live and die in these Democrat hell holes.

Earl you're using New Break for a reference, And I just checked out your news source, and this is what I found:

NewsBreaksHere is an extreme right biased news and opinion website. Virtually every story on this source is questionable and often links to other questionable and/or highly biased news sources. NewsBreaksHere also has a website that is difficult to navigate due to obnoxious pop-up advertising that tries to redirect you to potentially unsafe websites. NBH is also listed as a fake news source according to Politifact. (D. Van Zandt 4/12/2017)

It's a big country. If Minneapolis isn't working out for you, move on. Just please leave your politics there when you depart! Nostalgia is not going to put out the fire or stop the looting, don't bring 'just a bit' of it with you to your new home as 'just a bit' turns into 'a hell of a lot' over time..

Just the fact they use their boogieman fallacy about dismantling the police shows they have no leg to stand on. When will they stop pissing themselves with their faux boogiemen? The whole thing isn't dismantling it's reorganizing. You know, the legitimate way of doing what they cheer over Trump's cronie doing to the post office. Unlike what he did, the point is to keep things at capacity while reorganizing things.

    Refute the content, Trumper.

If you owned a business or a home that was burned and looted, would you remain in that city?

The Democrats in these Democrat controlled cities better get their act together or there will be a blood bath for them in November.

Ask some of your friends if law and order is a biggie with them.

    Horse mierda.

“What's happening: In Minneapolis, the Park and Recreation Board, the University of Minnesota, the public school system, and museums and venues have ended or limited their relationship with the police department, the Star Tribune reported.

Last week, the Baltimore City Council approved a $22.4 million budget cut for the police department.
The Portland City Council cut $15 million from its police budget earlier this month. $5 million of that would be put toward a new program that sends unarmed first responders to answer homelessness calls.
Philadelphia cancelled a planned $19 million increase for the police department and shifted $14 million of the police budget elsewhere — including affordable housing.
The city council in Hartford, Connecticut voted to cut or reallocate $2 million of its police budget.
In Seattle, every department budget is being trimmed by around 10%, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan told Axios' Dan Primack on the Re:Cap podcast. "We have to reallocate parts of the budget to take things out of the police department that shouldn’t be there ... We have to rethink what remains in the police department," Durkan said.
Other cities where officials are calling for changes, according to Local Progress, include San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, Oakland, Milwaukee, Denver, Durham, Winston-Salem, Chicago, New York City and D.C. “

New York City officials on Tuesday agreed to a grim coronavirus-era budget that will sharply curtail municipal services, impose a hiring freeze and, in a move meant to placate calls to defund the police, shift roughly $1 billion from the Police Department.Jun 30, 2020
