My father was in thePacific in WWII and his company was preparing for the eventual attack on Japan when the bomb was dropped. The bomb undoubtedly saved American lives. Japan could have surrounded after the first Nuke but we had to use a second. A ground fight would have cost many more lives on both sides.

The US military planned to drop a total of NINE bombs in August, September and October. Do you really think that they were seriously going to invade Japan?

My oldest brother was a Naval officer in combat in the South Pacific.

His life and countless other potential lives were saved by the two atomic bombs...Japanese lives too.

As I mentioned in another discussion about the A-bombs, my dad worked on a part of the Manhattan Project. He suffered a lot of guilt because of it, yet to the end he said that he felt it was necessary to use them, given the circumstances. I'm grateful that no one has since used one.

Yeh I think he was probably a janitor and accidently ingested some plutonium shavings whilst sweeping the floor. This could easily explain the congenital disorder that you suffer from!

Yes, Havana...before the bomb, there would have been no other choice than to invade Japan.

The bombs changed the strategic planning.

It saved a lot of American lives and Japanese lives...no need for a third bomb.

The Japanese capitulated after the second bomb.

Had they not, more bombs would have been needed...fortunately they were not.

Genocide is an attempt to extinguish a race or culture, if not worldwide, then at least in a given region.

Simply massacring a bunch of people because of their race or culture, if there is no attempt to extinguish that race or culture, is properly referred to as a crime against humanity.

Thus the World Trade Center attack was a crime against humanity but was not genocide.

It could have been extended with more atomic bombs as revenge for the thousands of American deaths at Pearl Harbor and throughout the island battles.

It was not extended which speaks to the morality of the American leadership.

I doubt that Japan would hsve done the same, had the roles been reversed.

At some point they were going to start saving them up so they could use them all at once just before the invasion.

They probably would have eliminated Kokura Arsenal before they started saving them up however.
