Even when stored right I dont know that this stuff has a seven year shelf life....this was extreme negligence...the complete failure of government to perform.

The Lebanese government should have just distributed the ammonium nitrate to farms and spread it on the ground as fertilizer. Problem solved and the crops do better.

The speculations before the facts on this thread were pure comedy. But in the end, it was pure Government incompetence. Yet the loony lefties here demand we all have more of it.

The port authority asked the government to remove the explosives many times. It was in writing too. They even said an accident would obliterate the area. Once it blew, they blamed the port authority.

We'll wait until investigation is over.
Has anyone done the math on whether or not that amount of fertilizer would create the size of the explosion witnessed?

Almost 3000 tons? Yes it would.
I think McVeigh used 2 tons? Multiply that by 1315 or so.

I see you made it correct for Americans. Nice job. I have noticed the qty went from 2700 tonnes to 2700 tons in the media. Two different things. Good job.

ROFL. First, you guessed. Second, all you'd done is prove you can't divide by two.

A real engineer would have been anal enough to look it up and verify their facts then presented those facts with links. Something like this:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklaho...ring_materials
In October 1994, McVeigh showed Michael and Lori Fortier a diagram he had drawn of the bomb he wanted to build.[42] McVeigh planned to construct a bomb containing more than 5,000 pounds (2,300 kg) of ammonium nitrate fertilizer mixed with about 1,200 pounds (540 kg) of liquid nitromethane and 350 pounds (160 kg) of Tovex. Including the weight of the sixteen 55-U.S.-gallon drums in which the explosive mixture was to be packed, the bomb would have a combined weight of about 7,000 pounds (3,200 kg).
God bless America and those who defend our Constitution.
