Default Beijing Biden Says He Will End Trump’s Tariffs On China -aide walks it back

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden said he would remove Donald Trump’s tariffs on imports from China, which are taxes on U.S. consumers and companies. An aide later asserted the former vice president “would reevaluate the tariffs upon taking office.” A Gallup poll in February 2020 detected positive views of Americans toward international trade, with 79% viewing trade as “an opportunity for economic growth,” while only 18% considered trade a “threat.” (Note: The article has been updated to reflect the Biden aide’s statement.)

Biden’s comments on tariffs came during an exchange with Lulu Garcia-Navarro, who hosts Weekend Edition Sunday and is a host of National Public Radio’s (NPR) morning news podcast Up First.

“Some have said Trump’s stance is a good one to counter China’s influence,” said Garcia-Navarro. “Would you keep the tariffs?”

“No. Hey, look, who said Trump’s idea’s a good one?” said Biden. “Manufacturing has gone into a recession. Agriculture lost billions of dollars that taxpayers had to pay
    .”

Biden laid out a multilateral approach to dealing with China’s trade practices and criticized the Trump administration’s unilateral approach.

Fox wants you to always refer to China as "the Chinese Communist Party."

considering China uses SOEs to market -pretty much so. but that's a red herring.

Biden is a clueless dweeb - has no idea how tariffs were used to get China to the table

Beijing biden really doesn't have a ring to it.. You need something w/ a lil zing....

IMHO the tariffs obviously are hurting Americans-making us pay more for goods during a recession & pandemic....

THis is weighed against benefits to China........

I thought the main reasons for the tariffs is to force beneficial concessions from the ccp & help address the trade balance......???

Any new admin is going to assess this, as trump should, should he remain in office...
"There is no question former President Trump bears moral responsibility. His supporters stormed the Capitol because of the unhinged falsehoods he shouted into the world’s largest megaphone," McConnell wrote. "His behavior during and after the chaos was also unconscionable, from attacking Vice President Mike Pence during the riot to praising the criminals after it ended."

“No, no, here’s the deal,” said Biden, who questioned the premise. “The question is what is the appropriate behavior that they have to engage in international relations, in international trade with us, and they have to play by the international rules. And what we have done is we have disarmed ourselves.”

““The way China will respond is when we gather the rest of the world . . . That’s when things begin to change. That’s when China’s behavior is going to change.”
    OMG
Biden think we can get a United Front against China !?? HA HA HA -what a Dumb Ass

by WHAT FUCKING MECHANISM DOES HE THINK THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN?? -it aint the WTO

no no no. do some research before you spout that claptrap -tariffs have not impacted inflation/price of goods.

Wise the fuck up. Biden is an idiot . stop the apologies for him
he opposes tariffs because Trump used them -he spouts a lot of noise abut getting "nations to stand up to China"
-but doesnt say HOW he gets them to do that.

you and I have discussed this -it can't happen by any international agreement because CHINA CHEATS.
it has to be a bilateral with enforcement mechanisms - no other design works

Do you believe force is the only weapon the USA/west possesses??

That works well against a weak foe, not so much against a strong one, but needs to be part of the package..

    not military force.
economic prowess, they need our markets. Tariffs were 1 leverage used -and they were effective

It still took us 3 years to get phase 1 -standing around and hope other nations work with us for nebulous goals is doomed from the start

Well last month trump expressed he isn't interested in phase two, said it isn't likely to happen.

Personally I see no loss since what it actually entails, time frames, products etc is unknown......... Do you know any details???

They know what force is........... I dunno if we can force them to do what trump wants any more........

phase 1 isn't ratified. not on a path to ratification either.

Trump is saying he's not just going to let the Wu-flu pass without China acknowledging their culpability
or make some type of compensation. Trump was asked "have you talked to X?" -and simply said no.
    Terse. Trump is never terse

Personally I see no loss since what it actually entails, time frames, products etc is unknown......... Do you know any details???
I know lots of details, but it depended on the inertia of continuing to the Senate for ratification
Since that isn't going to happen, that same inertia will just drag it into historical irrelevance,
    unless Trump gets relected
They know what force is........... I dunno if we can force them to do what trump wants any more........
enforcement mechanisms are formalized in the agreement
