Thomas Friedman at the Times was the first I heard about it. Elizabeth Drew at the Times wrote recently we should scrap the debates. Former Clinton Press Secretary Joe Lockhart wrote this op-Ed and said he shouldn’t debate.

Stop and think for a second Nordberg. Any sitting President who skips the debates would rightfully get crushed. On top of that look at the matter of incentives. Trump is losing in the polls right now. What is Biden's biggest weakness? He's known to make verbal gaffes and his age and is he still all there. Trump has every incentive in the world to want to debate Biden and hope Biden f's up to the point that Trump is deemed palatable. With his current lead and knowing his weakness there's a reason we've seen some Biden supporters recommend Biden skip the debates like Archives did and was written in the NY Times.

Biden's camp should negotiate the terms of the debates. Shut off the microphone as soon as a candidate veers away from the question, or begins to peddle overt lies.

Back in 2016 Trump questioned if he would even attend debates (https://www.theatlantic.com/politics...ebates/493889/), even claimed some were fixed against him, and now he wants more debates and earlier debates, even said debates are an election tradition, I suppose, just like candidates releasing their taxes, but I’m Trump draws a line there

Biden shouldn’t commit to any debates, why debate another who is just going to echo one lie after another, measure circumstances at the time and make it last minute commitment if at all
